Das completes successful final pre-testing in Jerez

Cameron Das has completed a strong and successful final pre-season test ahead of the 2018 Euroformula Open Championship. Taking on two days of official testing in Jerez, Spain, Das was once again at the sharp end of the grid as he and his Carlin team worked through a full and productive test programme ahead of the eight-round series. This will be the final test before the start of the 2018 Euroformula Open season which gets underway next month in Estoril, Portugal.

For American racer Das, who recently turned 18, the two days of testing at the Spanish circuit allowed him to jump back in to his Euroformula Open car and get to grips with the 4.428km Jerez circuit. Using the two busy days to his advantage he worked through a full programme of both qualifying and race runs in anticipation of the season – as well as providing vital feedback on the performance of the car.

Starting the test on old, used tries Das was quickly on the pace and cemented his championship aspirations; despite the tire disadvantage he was still able to impress and set the third quickest time during the morning and ended the day in fourth overall having completed a total of 84 laps. Using new tires for the second day of the test, Das was at the very top of the time sheets for a large portion of the afternoon before a red flag drew a conclusion to proceedings with the talented racer in fourth position overall.

Over the course of the two days, Das completed a total of 149 laps equalling over 650km; gaining valuable experience and track time ahead of the season opener in Estoril.

Das said of the test, “We made good progress during the past two days here in Jerez. We started on Wednesday with a good car following on from testing last time out at Paul Ricard, so I was quickly up to third overall despite being on used tires that morning. Then for the second day on new tires we were in the top four again.

“Throughout the rest of the test we made multiple changes to the car to give us a better knowledge as we head in to the season for future rounds – and Jerez specifically. With all this information gathered, I’m confident that we can be on top for the first round in Estoril.”

The 2016 F4 US Champion now looks ahead to the season opener at Estoril in April where he will be looking to replicate his strong winter testing form.
